North Cyprus and Buying a Car

You will find many car showrooms in Northern Cyprus giving you a good choice of options of new and used cars.  Unleaded petrol or diesel is available. In North Cyprus there are servicing agents for a wide range of cars the only problem you might face is spare parts which could pose a problem for some makes.

If you take a car out of the country – for example say for a holiday in Turkey you will need to obtain an export certificate subsequently it has to be re-imported for a small fee.

All locally registered cars are liable for a Road Tax.  Road Tax is paid annually at the North Cyprus office in Girne (Kyrenia), Lefkosa (Nicosia), Güzelyurt and Gazi Magusa (Famagusta); cars over three years old are must have an MOT test.

A valid British driving license is recognized in the TRNC for a limited period, as is an International Driving License. Within 3 months anyone owning a car in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is required to have a TRNC driving license

NOTE: If this is not obtained and an accident occurs, the car insurance will become null and void.
